The activitiy of this month for our students is to research and present about the most important British authors. They gave information portrayed them, wearing vintage clothes, they presented them and they prepared some writings for the noticeboard.

Our project was published in local newspaper Podenii Noi Secondary School/ Ioana Ciripoiu

 In order to spread the news about our project, we published our project on a local newspaper. This way, people in our county can find out about our activities.

Our project is published in local newspaper

As 50. Yıl Chrysler Secondary School teachers and administrators, we published our project on a local newspaper's website to reach more people in Gebze. So they can follow our activities and maybe (we hope) feel enthusiastic about English language and literature.

Author Presentations Part 3: Preparing the Noticeboard

50. Yıl Chrysler Secondary School students made an effort to prepare an excellent presentation activity, so they wanted all of their schoolmates to learn the authors they studied on. And they designed a notable noticeboard to have their attention to these writers.

See? They turned an ordinary wall to a remarkable noticeboard.

50. Yıl Chrysler Secondary School students presented the authors they chose. They pretended like they are "the author" and made a little speech.

In the picture above, you can see the similarities between the authors and my students. They made a really great effort for preparation. I'm proud of them. ☝

Some of my students didn't have presentations, but they still got prepared for the activity. They wore vintage clothes and accessories to reflect different eras of English Literature. You can see them in the picture above.👆

Author Presentations Part 1: Decorating the Room

50. Yıl Chrysler Secondary School students portrayed some prominent authors of English Literature as the January activity. First, they decorated the class with old accessories and vintage stuff.

They were really enthusiastic about the event. They designed and wore clothes that belong to the periods the authors lived. And they used vintage accessories to reflect the era.

And also, you can see the process of decoration of the classroom. Our students used some very old stuff and objects, even their mothers' and grandparents' handmade lace covers. Here they are:

50. yıl Chrysler Secondary School students decorated a class for author presentations.We used some old vintage sheets , typewriter , some knittings and old phone.

Şehit Serkan Şahin Secondary School students performed their presentations.First of all ,they  decorated the class and they made their presentations.One of the students performed two authors in turn.At the end, they felt as they are in the past and had fun.

50. Yıl Chrysler Secondary School students completed their presentations . Firts they decorated the class and then they had their presentations about the writers they choose. They searched their lives and works and wore some vintage clothes so that we all felt as we are in the dusty pages of past.

       This month we will do some researches about some outstanding authors and playwriters in english literature. With the help of our students ideas and interests we decided to learn more about William Shakespeare, Emily Bronte, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf, Daniel Defoe, Agatha Christie, J.K Rowling , Lewis Carroll and Jane Austen. It will be amazing to travel in time and explore their world.

 

Haydi gelin, "TIME TRAVEL IN LITERATURE (EDEBİYATTA ZAMAN YOLCULUĞU)" projemizi daha yakından tanıyalım:

Gebze 50. Yıl Chrysler Ortaokulu İngilizce öğretmenleri Tuğba KİRACI ve Alev ÇALIMBAY ATAKUL’un kurucusu olduğu “Time Travel in Literature (Edebiyatta Zaman Yolculuğu)” adlı proje etkinliklerine Aralık ayında başlandı.

Projenin hedefi, öğrencilerin, İngilizce diline ait yazılı eserleri ve bu eserleri ortaya çıkaran yazarları tanımalarını, öğrendikleri dile ait kültüre dair bilgi sahibi olmalarını sağlamak. Çünkü yazılı ve sözlü edebiyatını bilmediğimiz, onu kullananların hayal dünyasına yolculuk yapmadığımız bir dili içselleştirmek, tam anlamıyla öğrenmek mümkün değildir. Bu düşünceyle yola çıkan öğretmenlerimiz, öğrencilerini İngiliz Edebiyatı’nda bir zaman yolculuğuna çıkarıyor; onların yazarların, yaşantısına, iç dünyasına göz atıp yaşadıkları dönemden bizlere neler bıraktıklarını yakından inceleyebilmelerini sağlıyor.

Projedeki diğer kurucu okul Bursa’da yer alırken, projeyi yürüten okullarımızın bulundukları diğer şehirler ise İstanbul, Ordu, Van ve Romanya’dan Podenii Noi okulu. Türkiye’nin çeşitli bölgelerindeki, büyük çoğunluğu 6.sınıf ve lise öğrencilerinden oluşan; hatta çalışmaları sınırları aşıp Doğu Avrupa ülkesi Romanya’ya ulaşan bu proje, öğrencilere, öğrenmek için emek harcadıkları dili, sürekli belli sınırlar çerçevesinde öğrenmek zorunda olmadıklarını gösterirken, isterlerse dilin içerisinde yolculuk yapıp onu çok yakından tanıyabilecekleri bir tecrübe fırsatı sunuyor.

Bunu gerçekleştirirken, yer yer Web 2.0 araçlarından Chatterpix kullanarak kendilerini özdeşleştirebilecekleri avatarlar oluşturup tanıtımlar yapabiliyorlar, bazen Canva kullanarak logo ve afiş tasarlayıp yaratıcılıklarını ölçebiliyorlar. Proje kapsamında bir İngiliz yazarın karakterine bürünüp onu canlandırabilecekleri etkinliklerde de yer alabiliyorlar.

Tüm bunları, İngiliz Edebiyatı’nın en büyük eserlerinden birini okuyup, özümseyip, “Sen yazarın yerinde olsan sonunu nasıl yazmak istedin?” sorusuna kendi iç dünyalarında cevap bulabilecekleri ve bunu yabancı dilde nasıl söze ve yazıya dökebileceklerini öğrendikleri bir sonuç izliyor.

Görüldüğü üzere bu proje öğrencileri, edebiyatta zaman yolculuğuna çıkarırken İngilizce’ye uzaktan bakmak yerine onu etkili şekilde kullanabilecekleri geniş, tarihi, edebi bir alan yaratıyor.

As project partners , we all decided to design posters for our project . We used canva web 2 tool to create these posters . Then we had a competition , shared our posters with many other students and teachers and parents. At the end  the one which got most of the votes is selected as our project poster.
